The Memorial Health System Department of Pharmacy Services is committed to ensuring that all patients receive the best possible care through medication therapy.

When a doctor orders medication from the pharmacy, pharmacists carefully review the order and enter it into a computerized information system. Many products are already mixed by the manufacturer, but our staff will often mix special medications, including those that go directly into the bloodstream and must be sterile. These medications are prepared by our technical staff and then reviewed by a pharmacist prior to be dispensed to a nurse for administration.

Our pharmacy department at Memorial Health System is highly automated, which ensures accurate and fast delivery of medications. Pharmacy carousel is an automated storage and retrieval system automatically dispenses the correct medication. A bar code system ensures that the correct medication is delivered, and the system automatically reorders medications as needed.

Many medications ordered by a physician are dispensed directly to nursing stations through our automated dispensing system, Pyxis. These systems can only be accessed by nurses and by pharmacy staff who refill them regularly. This ensures strict control over medications and enhances your safety.

Memorial's pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are highly trained and professionally certified. All of our pharmacists have graduated from an accredited school of pharmacy and are licensed by the state of Colorado. The department itself is licensed by the Colorado Board of Pharmacy, which ensures that our procedures comply with state regulations designed to protect the public. Our Medication Safety Specialist continually monitors processes and systems in the department to find ways to improve services and minimize medication errors.
