Preceptors
Paula Moyers, PharmD, BCPS, Pharmacy Residency Program Director
Paula is the Pharmacy Clinical Manager, Residency Program Director, primary preceptor for Infectious Disease and Practice Management and assists with some topics in Internal Medicine. Paula earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Southern California and had many years of experience as a residency program director before starting the Residency Program here at Memorial in 2004. Over the years, she has specialized in transplantation, infectious disease, critical care, and academia. In her free time she enjoys the great outdoors, gardening, traveling near and far, her menagerie of animals, as well as being a huge ice hockey fan.
Jill Cassaday, RPh, PharmD, BCPS (Oncology)
Jill is the Clinical Lead Pharmacist for Oncology. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Montana School of Pharmacy & Allied Health Sciences. Jill completed an ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Eastern Colorado Health Care System. In addition to her experience as an oncology pharmacist, she also has experience in ambulatory care and medication safety.
Michael Holowatyj, PharmD, BCPS (Emergency Medicine)
Mike is the preceptor for Emergency Services. He attended Purdue University for his degree in pharmacy and completed a PGY-1 at Indiana University Health followed by a PGY-2 in Internal Medicine at Indiana University. Prior to coming to Memorial Hospital, he held a joint position where he was associate faculty of pharmacy practice with Butler University and a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist of Internal Medicine at St.Vincent hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. In his spare time he frequently attempts and fails: the cinnamon challenge, batmanning, folding a piece of paper more than seven times, and keeping his eyes open during a sneeze.
Christopher P. Martin, PharmD, MS, BCPS (Practice Management- Quality)
Chris is the Clinical Pharmacy Quality Coordinator and one of the preceptors for Practice Management and Internal Medicine. Chris earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree at Texas Tech Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy. After graduation, he completed a specialty practice residency in pharmacotherapy and earned a MS in Pharmacy degree from The University of Texas College of Pharmacy. Prior to arriving at Memorial, Chris was a clinical assistant professor at The University of Texas College of Pharmacy and at UT Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Medicine. When Chris isn't working, he enjoys spending time in the Colorado great outdoors with his family, smoking Texas style barbeque and cheering for the Longhorns - Hook'em Horns!
David Nash, PharmD (Pediatrics)
Dave is the Pharmacy Manager for Children’s Hospital Colorado at Memorial and preceptor for Pediatrics, NICU and Women’s Health. Dave earned his Doctor of Pharmacy from Creighton University School of Pharmacy and completed an ASHP-accredited Pediatric Pharmacy Practice Specialty Residency at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In addition to his experience as a Pharmacy Manager, Dave was also a Clinical Lead Pharmacist at Memorial Hospital for Children at Memorial Health System and has been recognized as a Peak Performer Award winner for 2011 and 2012 (outstanding hospital pharmacist). Dave is working on climbing all 54 Fourteeners in Colorado (19 to date) and enjoys adventure races.
Jessica Peterson, PharmD, BCPS (Internal Medicine, Anticoagulation)
Jess is the Clinical Lead Pharmacist for the Medical/Surgical service. Jess earned her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Nebraska and her Doctor of Pharmacy from Creighton University. Jess completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at Memorial Health System, and then worked in several different departments prior to taking her role as the primary preceptor for the Internal Medicine and Anticoagulation rotations in 2010. Jess enjoys snowboarding, drug mechanisms, traveling to sunny locations, avoiding mornings, novel anticoagulants, hiking, updating protocols, Husker football and spending time with family.
Christine M. Witherspoon, PharmD, BCPS (Critical Care, Cardiology)
Christy is the Clinical Lead Pharmacist for Critical Care and Cardiology. Christy received her Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Pre-Medicine at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. Christy received her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Colorado, and then completed an ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Regional Medical Center at Memphis. In her free time, Christy enjoys skiing, learning to snowboard, drug trivia, going on hikes and walks, chasing two-year olds, spending time with her family and, of course, shopping.
ResidentsShayla Barraclough, PharmD (Shayla.Barraclough@memorialhealthsystem.com)
Shayla, originally from Helena, Montana, received her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the Dickinson State University in 2008 and completed her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Montana. Her professional practice interests include oncology and pediatrics. This year, she is conducting a research project involving a pharmacist intervention to decrease inappropriate use of stress-ulcer prophylaxis among adult medicine patients. Upon completion of her pharmacy practice residency, Shayla plans to pursue BCPS and a clinical pharmacist position at a large, community hospital. In her free time, Shayla enjoys spending time with her husband, family, and friends, playing sports, skiing, and being outdoors.
Stephen Cheung, PharmD (Stephen.Cheung@memorialhealthsystem.com)
Stephen, originally from Seattle, WA, received his B.S. from the University of Washington in Microbiology and Medical Technology and then his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Colorado. Stephen’s primary interests of practice include infectious disease, critical care and internal medicine. The focus of his research project is to implement a pharmacist-driven urinary tract infection protocol. Following residency, he hopes to obtain a shared academic/clinical position in the near future. Outside of pharmacy, Stephen trains for and participates in triathlons, 5K, 10K, half-marathons, hiking and cycling. His lifetime goal is to do the Ironman in Kona.
Joseph A. Kalis, PharmD (Joseph.Kalis@memorialhealthsystem.com)
Joe has lived in many places in the world, but his latest place of residence prior to Colorado was the Commonwealth of Virginia, where he earned his Doctor of Pharmacy at Shenandoah University in Virginia. Joe’s professional interests include oncology, infectious disease, and bow ties. The goal of his residency research project is to develop and implement an appropriate-use protocol for myeloid growth factors. In his spare time, Joe can be found crashing mountain bikes with aplomb, scaling tall mountains and musing philosophy.
Theresa Ann Romaldini, PharmD (Theresa.Romaldini@memorialhealthsystem.com)
Theresa is from Pittston, Pennsylvania. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia and worked as a drug metabolism scientist for GlaxoSmithKline. In 2008, her career changed directions and she pursued her Doctorate of Pharmacy from Wilkes University Nesbitt School of Pharmacy. She has a strong professional interest in internal medicine and a passion for pain management. The goal of her residency research project is to implement the utilization of procalcitonin measurements in the guidance of antimicrobial therapy. Next year, she hopes to become a Certified Pain Educator and aid hospitalized patients with acute and chronic pain conditions in their transition to outpatient care. When Theresa is not immersed in pharmacy-related activities, she enjoys hiking, running, skiing, cooking, hosting small gatherings, spending time with her family, and traveling to as many places as she can see.
