20 June, 2012

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Memorial Health System has been designated as the official health system of the Colorado Springs U.S. Olympic Training Center under a unique new agreement.

Under the agreement, Memorial will provide certain general and specialized medical care for elite athletes, as well as provide medical support for United States Olympic Committee-hosted athletic events. The arrangement may serve as a model for other U.S. Olympic Training Centers and Sites around the country.

“We are honored that the U.S. Olympic Committee has entrusted us with the care of the amazing athletes that train here in Colorado Springs, whose good health is critical not only for their own success and dreams, but also for the country’s standing on the world stage,” said Memorial interim CEO Mike Scialdone. “This is a testament to our mission to provide the highest quality health care.”

“This new agreement will help America’s finest Olympic and Paralympic athletes receive the medical care they need to make their dreams come true,” said Dr. Bill Moreau, USOC managing director of sports medicine. “The men and women at Memorial are terrific medical providers and we’re grateful that their services will be available to some of the amazing athletes that come through our Olympic Training Center here in Colorado Springs.”

According to terms in the agreement, certain athletes will have access to a wide range of medical care from Memorial’s concussion clinic and holistic therapies to treatment from specialty physicians and emergency care. Memorial will provide a sports liaison to ensure athletes receive coordinated care.
