Accreditation

NAPBC AccreditationMary Lou Beshears Breast Care Center at Memorial Hospital is one of nine accredited centers in Colorado. The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, or NAPBC, is a program administered by the American College of Surgeons.

Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance against the group’s standards.

The standards include proficiency in the areas of: center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement. A breast center that achieves NAPBC accreditation has demonstrated a firm commitment to offer its patients every significant advantage in their battle against breast disease.

Commission on Cancer logoSince 1981, the Memorial Hospital Cancer Program has continually maintained its accreditation by the American College of Surgeons, Commission on Cancer (CoC). Accreditation by CoC is voluntary but vitally important to the patient. It demonstrates the ongoing commitment made by Memorial Hospital to continually improve its program, physicians and support staff to ensure the highest quality care is delivered to each cancer patient, every time.

To receive ongoing accreditation the cancer program must continually monitor and evaluate its performance by demonstrating compliance to defined set standards. The standards are patient centered and address the full continuum of cancer care. These include performance metrics, outcome based comparisons against national standards, continuous quality improvement, community outreach, research and ongoing professional education.

Patients will benefit knowing they have full access to a dedicated, multi-disciplinary team who will coordinate their personalized care using the full scope of services available to diagnose, treat, rehabilitate, and support patients and families during their cancer journey.

ACR AcreditationMemorial Hospital has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in radiation oncology as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Radiation oncology (radiation therapy) is the careful use of high-energy radiation to treat cancer. A radiation oncologist may use radiation to cure cancer or to relieve a cancer patient's pain.

The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 36,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
