Aug 3: Memorial Health System Pain Expert Named a Nightingale Winner
August 3, 2007
Memorial Health System is proud to announce that Kim Spinelli, pain management clinical nurse specialist, is one of six recipients of the 2007 Nightingale Awards from the Colorado Nurses Foundation.
Kim runs the Pain Management Program at Memorial Health System. Her belief that no patient in pain should suffer lead her to establish a comprehensive pain management service for both in and out patients who can be treated with medications, complementary therapy approaches and other interventions to modify pain. She was one of hundreds of nurses nominated for the 22nd annual Nightingale Award, which recognize those who exemplify nursing excellence and help patients regain optimal health. Fellow nurses and managers describe her as a “life changer” and “life restorer.”
Kim has been with Memorial since 1983. She actively advocates for pain management at the state and national level, helping other healthcare providers develop similar programs. She also teaches pain assessment and management at local colleges and serves on the Colorado Pain Initiative.
