Oct 13: New Geriatrician Joins Memorial Health System Senior Clinic
For Immediate Release
October 13, 2008
Memorial Health System Senior Clinic’s newest physician, Laura Ziegler, M.D., grew up at the knee of a strong elderly woman, her grandmother.
“The best advice my grandmother ever gave me was to become a doctor,” said Ziegler.
“I chose to go into the geriatric field because I wanted to care for the unique needs of the senior patients,” Ziegler said.
As a geriatrician, Dr. Ziegler looks at patients from all aspects of life. She addresses needs that the elderly person may have beyond medical care, which could include socialization, nutrition, end-of-life care and functioning independently as long as possible. Sometimes her patients are physically not able to make the trip in to see her so Ziegler schedules a house call to treat some patients in the comfort of their own home.
Geriatrics is an emerging field of medicine that is growing because of demand from Baby Boomers and people living longer. “Memorial focuses on wellness and how to promote the well-being of our senior citizens,” said Ziegler. “I like the quality and compassion which are the strength of this clinic.’’
Ziegler is currently accepting new patients who are 65 years of age and older and are on Medicare. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call Memorial Senior Clinic at 719-365-6363.
