Jan 14: Memorial Names Interim CEO

For Immediate Release

January 14, 2008

The Memorial Health System Board of Trustees has named Larry McEvoy, M.D. interim CEO and Dick Eitel has set a retirement date of March 31. Eitel and McEvoy will work closely over the next couple of months to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities.

“Under Dick’s leadership, Memorial has achieved great success and we thank him sincerely for his many years of service” said Board Chair Mike Edmonds. “We are confident that Dr. Larry McEvoy will provide strong interim leadership in support of Memorial’s excellent patient care. Larry’s energetic, engaging leadership style in combination with his significant clinical and administrative experience has already benefited the organization greatly and we look forward to working with him in his new interim CEO role.”

Following a national search, McEvoy joined Memorial Health System on October 1, 2007 as chief medical officer. A board-certified fellow of the American College of Emergency Medicine, he received his medical degree and internship/residency training at Stanford University and Hennepin County Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota, respectively. McEvoy's experience includes serving in executive leadership roles at the Billings Clinic, a multi-specialty hospital in Billings, Montana; consulting on leadership development, physician engagement, strategy development and operations improvement; and working as an emergency physician. “I am thoroughly impressed by the quality of the staff, volunteers and physicians and I look forward to serving with them in my new role as interim CEO,” stated McEvoy.“The community is very fortunate to have a tremendous resource like Memorial and I am thrilled to be a part of it.”

The Board will appoint a search committee and anticipates that it will take several months to select a CEO. The health system seeks a leader who will build upon Memorial’s success and significant growth, much of which has occurred over the past several years.

Eitel plans to attend law school and spend more time with his family.
