Memorial Hospital Volunteer Services Needs Knitters - 10/11/05

Memorial Hospital Volunteer Services is looking for knitters to make lap blankets for cancer patients, who may become chilled during treatments of 6 to 8 hours. The gift of a hand-made blanket not only warms a patient’s lap; it also provides special comfort while dealing with a stressful illness.

Memorial offers the following considerations for knitting blankets:

  • Yarn is available through the Volunteer Services office.
  • Soft yarn is highly recommended for patients with sensitive skin.
  • The standard blanket dimensions are 5 ft. by 3 ft.
  • Personal patterns and creativity are encouraged.
  • The tighter the weave, the warmer the blanket.
  • Knitting time can be applied to volunteer service hours.
