Dec 11: Memorial Health System CEO Plans to Retire in 2008

On Monday, Dec. 10, 2007, Memorial Health System Board of Trustees Chair Dr. Mike Edmonds, announced to the Colorado Springs City Council that CEO Dick Eitel intends to retire in 2008.
Eitel has served Memorial for almost 33 years, the last five as CEO. Under his leadership, Memorial has grown from a hospital to a health system, nationally recognized for its quality of care. During Eitel’s tenure, Memorial has experienced significant growth and success, including the recent openings of Memorial Hospital North and the East Tower at Memorial Hospital Central.
In addition, Memorial continues to be lauded for its excellent clinical quality, and has recently won several awards for cardiovascular excellence, most notably the 2008 HealthGrades #1 Heart Program in Colorado and being named one of the 2007 Thompson Top 100 Cardiac Hospitals in the nation. Memorial continues to be a precious and critical community asset, and Eitel has been a key driver behind its growth, development and outcomes. He is also a very active volunteer in the community, serving on a variety of boards including the YMCA, the Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce, Joint Initiatives for Youth and Families and Community Health Partners.
