Memorial Hospital Unwraps Gift to the Community
Memorial Hospital’s Executive Director Richard Eitel announced Tuesday, December 14, that Memorial has a special gift for families in the Pikes Peak region this holiday season. “I am pleased to share that the Colorado Springs Children’s Hospital at Memorial Hospital is open for our community,” said Eitel. “Memorial’s new children’s hospital will allow us to provide a level of specialized pediatric and neo-natal services only available to a select number of hospitals nationwide.”
In March 2004, Memorial officially received its designation as one of the nation’s estimated 250 children’s hospitals from the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI). Memorial’s hospital within a hospital structure is exclusive to just five percent of all hospitals nationwide. According to Administrative Director June Chan, the special needs of children in our community require resources specifically tailored to meeting those needs. “Kids are not small adults,” Chan emphasizes. “Their bodies don’t behave the same way and their treatment shouldn’t be the same.”
Memorial Hospital is a leading employer and provider of comprehensive health care services in southern Colorado. As a self-supporting city enterprise, Memorial receives no tax subsidy, yet treats everyone regardless of ability to pay. The hospital is licensed for 477 beds with more than a dozen outpatient facilities located throughout Colorado Springs and in Teller County. Through a dedicated team of 3,600 employees, 700 physicians and 900 volunteers, the hospital works to optimize the health of the community. Memorial continually invests in its people, technology, facilities and practices with the ultimate goal of providing excellent service and the most sensitive care to our patients.
